Hakim Altlis, Art painter

BIOGRAPHIE

My name is Hakim Altlis, 27 years old, Libyan, and live in tripoli, libya. I’m a painter, and I have always found myself in arts, since I was a child I was eager to pick up the brush and just paint, I basically use charcoal in my work, the reason for this is that I like the effects it does, it makes me really comfortable, and it never let me down when it comes to achieve what I want to express.

Along with painting, I’m also interested in photography, there’s a lot to say from a photo. I write too sometimes, especially when I get excited about something and I can’t turn my head away from it. So that is who I am, an artist, a dreamer, and an ambitious human being

INTERVIEW

Thank you so much for agreeing to an interview for our new arts initiative.
Herewith a couple of questions for you but please feel free to add anything you might want to. You can be as elaborate as you want on your answers!

From which age or happening did you start having an interest in painting?

I became interested in art when I discovered that I can reflect my thoughts and feelings on a white space. I was a little kid actually.

Who do you greatly admire in the painting arena and in other areas of the arts?

No one in particular to be honest, I can relate to art in all it's forms whoever the creator is, and even with spirituality we can see art in life itself all around us.

Do you think of particular themes at a time and how much time do you spend on planning this?

It happens quite often, but mostly it won't take long for me to get started with the project I intend to work on.

Do you have to travel much to get exactly that special scene for your painting?

Mmmmm no, as a matter of fact I get inspired by my surroundings, there’s so much variety where I live, and I guess my imagination does the rest.

Do you often just see something and know you have to capture it right away?

Yes, I do that sometimes, many of my paintings are just outcomes of the moment.

Do you consider freedom of expression in art a fundamental right of creators and why?

As a painter myself, I can't imagine any limits for the strokes for my brush or pencil. Therefore it's within the core of art to be free and not restrained by any rules or limitations.

Do you think that creativity should be a priority of educational systems and how would you encourage it?

Definitely, I strongly believe it should be introduced to students at an early age mostly, because people would benefit greatly from it in all aspects of life, even if they don't pursue it in later stages of their lives, as for how I believe I can encourage it as an artist, I always hope that my work talks to others and reaches them and allows them to realize that humans can communicate without a spoken language with no barriers at all.

Let's talk about creativity. What role should creativity play in society?

I think creativity should play a role of inclusion of all within the society no matter how different, no matter how it defies the norms of society, creativity is limitless on various aspects, and that's one aspect it should show the most to societies.

What message would you like to convey with your painting?
Ok, that’s really a very difficult question, it’s hard to say, since there’s nothing I wish more than for my work to be delivered to the viewer and directly speaks to his or her sensations and thoughts.

What or who inspires you?

My inspiration comes in different ways: sometimes after watching a movie or reading a book, sometimes from something I see in the street or in people faces. My style has always been influenced by urban culture, music, movies, even cartoons and many other things.

What are your other interests?

I’m pretty much into photography, maybe because it shares a lot of similarities with painting, writing is another passion of mine, a few humble attempts perhaps, but very liberating indeed.

Many, thanks for providing us with your information. I appreciate the time you have given!

With kind regards.
